About The Maker...

Creekwood Soap & Scents Owner & Artisan is Chanda Littleton.  She began making handmade soap several years ago for her and her family to help with sensitivities and skin issues (including battling hives for a year and a half all over her body for which the doctors had no answer.)  After much research and testing by family and friends who loved the products, she decided she wanted to share and began selling her products at local farmer's markets, online and in a local boutique.  Chanda enjoys the creativity and science behind soap making. She makes products she loves to use and believes they should be as natural as possible.  She has been creating soap and other products for amazing customers since 2016.  In her spare time Chanda loves spending time with her family and pets, knitting, reading and camping.

About The Process...

Handcrafted soap is a blend of both science and art. By combining the scientific knowledge of the last 150 years and the artistic creativity of the soapmaker, each bar is safe, luxurious and unique.  Creekwood Soap & Scents' soap is made from scratch using the cold process or hot process methods. Handcrafted soaps made from scratch require three ingredients to become soap: oil (animal or vegetable oil, not petroleum-based oil), water and lye. (We do not use any animal-based oils in our products.)  These three ingredients, mixed together in correct proportions, combine and chemically change into soap - a process called "saponification". A variety of additives can be used to bring specific properties and create a luxurious, skin-loving bar.  We offer a variety of vegan and goat's milk soaps.  We cure soap for at least 6 weeks for a longer lasting, more gentle bar of soap.

Why use handcrafted soap?  One reason is because of the natural glycerin.  Glycerin is a humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to your skin. Glycerin is a natural by-product of the soap making process. Commercial manufacturers remove the glycerin to use in their more profitable lotions and creams.  Handcrafted soap retains glycerin in each and every bar. Your skin will benefit from using soap that is created with natural oils and butters instead of one made with a concoction of synthetic chemicals and detergents.

Another great reason is every handmade item is made with love, passion and care.  It’s not mass produced on a factory line, or processed by a machine. Every item is measured, stirred, poured, sliced, wrapped and labeled by hand.  When you support small business, you're supporting a dream, a family and so much more.
